History

Girl Scout Troop 993 has been together since the third grade as an Upcountry Maui troop. While we are all seniors at various high schools, and juggle many extra-curriculas, we always find time to participate in scouting. Over the past 10 years, we have been an extremely active and driven troop through our community service activities, Girl Scout cookie sales, and awards.

Community Service: We do many community service projects, such as beach clean ups at Kanaha Beach Park, first aid camps at Camp Piiholo, Christmas caroling at nursing homes, and pet therapy for senior citizens, to name just a few. We have also won the 2005 Community Service Award presented by former mayor Alan M. Arakawa. Community service has been a defining aspect of our troop.

Cookie Sales: In cookie season of 2008, our biggest accomplishment to date in cookie sales occurred. Ryanne made her life long goal of selling 1000 boxes. Cookie sales has allowed us to put the fun in our Girl Scouting experience, we enjoy spending the hard earned money by visiting Oahu’s Girl Scout Council (and the Dolphin Institute) or staying the night at a fancy hotel.  We also take a portion of our sales every year and give back to the community.  Some examples are gift baskets for Women Helping Women and food baskets for Child & Family Services.

Awards: In addition to community service and cookie sales, we have also completed our Girl Scout Bronze and Silver Awards. Our Bronze Award which was achieved in 2003 by seven girls consisted of organizing and putting on a three day after school program with sports and crafts at Kula Elementary School for prospective Brownie Girl Scouts. For our 2005 Silver Award we put on a three day camp at Camp Piiholo, to help current Girl Scouts complete three different badges: the sports, craft, and camping patches.
